Common Foot and Ankle Conditions

The foot is one of the most complex structures of the human body. Each fully matured foot is composed of 28 bones, more than 30 joints and hundreds of soft tissue structures including ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. There are various orthopedic, rheumatic, neurologic, dermatologic and vascular pathologies that can affect a person’s foot, and a podiatric foot and ankle specialist is skilled to address many of these disorders.

Pediatric Foot and Ankle Conditions

The feet of children are different from adults in more ways than just size. The human foot does not stop growing until the teen years, later in males than females, so there are many concerns that can arise during this time. Continued pain is NEVER a normal symptom for a child and “growing pains” is not a true diagnosis, thus evaluation is recommended if there is a concern. Children spend more time barefoot, are prone to injuries due to sports and general play and can develop nail and skin issues that could benefit from thorough podiatric evaluation.
